Got up early to catch a 7am chicken bus to Chichicastenango for the big market day. (A "chicken bus" is the fond name given to the local public bus transport system in Guatemala, where you could find yourself squeezed next to almost any kind of person or animal).
The markets were pretty intense and we got tired out good! Definitely well worth the visit, depite being just a little touristy. Prices for things were much higher here than at Pana or the other villages around Lake Atitlán. It was a jostling, riotous rainbow of colours, sounds and smells.
We stayed in Chichi for most of the day, returing around 5pm on no less than three separate chicken buses. Keiko was tired yet fulfilled by all the tough haggling she had perpetrated and victoriously clung to numerous plastic bags filled with her purchases. "Whatever", said Nico...
